So Long, Fare Well...
Written by Eric
Monday, 13 April 2009

As you might have noticed, it's been a long time since I've posted anything.  The main reason for that is because I pretty much decided at the beginning of the year that it was time to let go.  The details are long and boring, but the Reader's Digest version is that the site wasn't really what I wanted it to be, and I was the primary support for keeping things up to date with news, reviews, as well as keeping up on the back end of things.  Personally, that's too much work for me with the limited time that I have.

My primary passion is reviewing, and everything else I had to do here was getting in the way of that.  So, despite all the work that went into getting MWOH going, it's time to say goodbye.  This by no means implies that I'm done reviewing.  In fact, this decision has freed me up to write more reviews than ever.  Be sure to check me out at either Rusty Sabre or TechnoBrains. For those who tried to help support the site, I thank you. For those who visited, I thank you as well. I hope you'll come out and visit my new digs.

Take care, and may all of your mobile adventures be good ones!

Review: Quick Looks Part 1
Written by Eric
Monday, 05 January 2009
Now that I've gotten mixed up in the whole iPod Touch thing, I've finally decided that there are just way too many games for me to do full reviews on.  However, I'd really like to be able to share with you some thoughts on as many games as possible.  So, I've decided to start posting reviews that are a synopsis of 3-4 different games at a time, which I will cleverly call "Quick Looks".  I actually started doing this on my Smartphone & PocketPC blog, but there I only do one game at a time.  Also, I decided that since these are abreviated reviews, I will use a simple rating system: Recommend, On The Fence, or Don't Recommend.  On The Fence are games that aren't necessarily bad, but that I also don't see myself really playing beyond writing the review.  Anyway, I hope this new "digest" format is useful to you, and I trust that it will allow me to share my opinions on a much wider range of games.

Happy New Year, 2009!
Written by Eric
Friday, 02 January 2009

Well, my series "The 12 Reviews Of The Holidays" went about as expected, which means that I didn't get it complete. In fact, I actually did worse than last year, only getting in 9 reviews before the whole New Year's thing.  That's okay, though, because I'd rather miss the mark and bring you good reviews than try and rush and give you something half-hearted.  I did manage to get a couple of "quick thoughts" on games over at my Smartphone & PocketPC blog, and I also got the opportunity to post a series on my top picks for the 2008 Smartphone & PocketPC awards.  So, in the spirit of convenient reading, I've decided to post links to everything I've just discussed.  I hope you enjoy, and here's to this year being my best review year yet!

Sneezies reviewed
Written by Eric
Wednesday, 31 December 2008
Thanks to the prolific advertising on the web site Pocketgamer, one of the first games I had my eyes on for the iPod Touch was Sneezies. I didn't actually know anything about it, but the banner looked really cute. When I finally got my iPod the game was listed in the App Store for 99 cents, so it seemed like a no-brainer to buy. As it turns out, it was not only well worth the buck and change after tax, but probably would have been worth a few dollars more as well.

Hydro Tilt reviewed
Written by Eric
Tuesday, 30 December 2008
This is my first review of an iPod game, so forgive me if the review seems a bit "drool-ish". I always try to remain unbiased in my writing, but I'm still getting used to the novelty of the technology. I figured for my first review I should take a look at something that takes advantage of one of the features that's fairly unique to the iPod, and what better type of game to look at than one where you move your character through a series of mazes via the accelerometer control. Welcome to Hydro Tilt!

12 Reviews Of The Holidays update
Written by Eric
Sunday, 21 December 2008
I just thought I'd give you a little update on my "12 Reviews Of The Holidays" segment, first mentioned here. Sadly, I'm not quite as far along as I'd like to be, which probably means I won't finish it again this year. However, here are the links to the reviews I've written since the segment started:

Brain College
Insaniquarium Deluxe
Travel Genius
Archibald's Adventures
Bookworm Deluxe

And, as a little bonus, I posted a review that I wrote a couple of years ago that never saw the light of day for a game called TetriCrisis. You can read that here.

TetriCrisis reviewed (a long time ago)
Written by Eric
Sunday, 21 December 2008
A couple of years ago I wrote a review for a Palm game called TetriCrisis. For various reasons the review never got published. As I've been going through my archive of reviews, though, I decided that it was a waste not to have this review seen since I worked so hard on it. Since the writing of this review I noticed the game has been renamed to T-Crisis. If you feel the urge to write to me and say, "hey, this game looks just like such-and-such from so-and-so company", please don't. While I know some of the details about what happened between the supposed developer and the publisher, I don't know all of them nor do I care. All I know is that I wrote a review about a game called TetriCrisis. End of story. Also, you'll note the format is a bit different than normal, because I originally wrote it for a site called PDArcade, which is now defunct. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Overview
Tetris is in my opinion the only puzzle game to really consume the gaming industry as a whole. Now, 17 years and many iterations later, Silent Hero Productions has taken their turn with the classic puzzle game in the form of TetriCrisis 100%. It is indeed an outstanding translation, but in an ever expanding world of thought based games, can a nearly 20 year old reaction based puzzler hold its weight?
